The Alabama Historical Commission is the State Historic Preservation Office, an agency established in response to the 1966 Historic Preservation Act and funded by both federal and state governments. The mission of the AHC, “to protect, preserve, and interpret Alabama’s historic places,” is realized through programs such as the National Register of Historic Places, the Alabama Register of Landmarks, and others. This agency is charged with safeguarding Alabama’s historic buildings and sites located throughout the state. The AHC board consists of twenty-one commissioners who represent the diverse industry and culture of Alabama. Visit preserveala.org for more information and be sure to like us on Facebook!
